This course has been designed to provide learners with the skills and knowledge required to operate a forklift truck safely in accordance with all relevant legislative requirements. This course will require the persons operating a forklift truck to:

  • plan for the work/task
  • prepare for the work/task
  • perform the work/task
  • pack up

A forklift truck is defined as a powered industrial truck equipped with lifting media made up of a mast and an elevating load carriage to which is attached a pair of fork arms or other attachments that can be raised 900mm or more above the ground, but does not include a pedestrian-operated truck or a pallet truck.

A person must hold a High Risk Work Licence (HRWL) in the Forklift truck class to perform this work.

Competence in TLILIC0003 does not automatically result in the participant receiving a High Risk Work Licence (HRWL) to operate a forklift truck. The participant must also successfully complete the Safework NSW mandated assessment in order to obtain a High Risk Work Licence (HRWL).

This course is delivered face to face only. 

All participants undertaking this course are required to demonstrate the following to be eligible for enrolment in this course:

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Ability to speak, read and write English. 
  • Have sound basic numeracy skills
  • Physically fit to complete practical components
  • Have 100 points of valid ID
  • Have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). From 1st January 2015 each student that will be commencing nationally recognised training in Australia is required to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) to be able to obtain their certificate or qualification from their registered training organisation. Persons undertaking this course are required to complete practical, verbal and written assessment tasks.

In order to obtain a High Risk Work Licence in the LF Class, persons undertaking this course must complete the Safework NSW mandated assessment.

This assessment is completed under exam conditions with a Safework NSW accredited assessor. 

Upon successful completion of this course, the participant will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for the unit of competency:

TLILIC0003 – Licence to operate a forklift truck. 

This course does not automatically result in a High Risk Work Licence. Only when the participant has completed the following, are they eligible to apply for a High Risk Work Licence – LF Class:

  • Successfully completed the training course they were enrolled in
  • Successfully completed & passed the Safework NSW mandated assessment
  • Are 18 years or older
  • Can provide 100 points of ID
  • Acknowledge there is a licensing fee applicable when submitting paperwork to apply for High Risk Work Licence at Post office.
