A General Construction Induction Card (GIT), or more commonly known as a White Card, is required for persons who want to carry out construction based work or require access to construction sites.

People who may require a White card include:

  •  Site managers, supervisors, surveyors, labourers, tradespeople
  • people who access operational construction zones (unaccompanied or not directly supervised by an inducted person)
  • workers whose employment causes them to routinely enter operational construction zones

This unit of competency specifies the mandatory work health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work. The unit requires the person to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others. It covers identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies. It also covers correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.

This course is delivered face to face only. 

All participants undertaking this course are required to demonstrate the following to be eligible for enrolment in this course:

  • Must be 14 years or older
  • Have sound ability to speak, read and write English. 
  • Have sound basic numeracy skills
  • Have 100 points of valid ID
  • Have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). From 1st January 2015 each student that will be commencing nationally recognised training in Australia is required to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) to be able to obtain their certificate or qualification from their registered training organisation. Persons undertaking this course are required to complete practical, verbal and written assessment tasks.

In order to obtain a Safework NSW White Card, persons undertaking this course must complete the Safework NSW mandated assessment.

Upon successful completion of this course, the participant will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for the unit of competency:

The participant will also receive a Safework NSW issued General Construction Induction Training card (white card) within 30 days of completion of training.
